Short-eared owls

One of three young short-eared owls (Asio flammeus) peers out from its

artificial nest set up in a basket in Koeroesladany, 192km southeast of

Budapest, Hungary. The nestlings were born with the help of a breeder after

their eggs had been found abandoned and taken to the house of a national

park guard who fed them with mouse meat.
